An average person is said to be moving once every ten years. Pets can live longer than ten years, so it is likely that they will be moving with their owners. Owners need to understand that pets are like people who feel stress during relocation. It may be difficult for them to learn new routines, terrains, etc. Pets are very sensitive to habitat changes and may become frightened with the unfamiliar. Thus, it is important to keep their routines as regular as possible to make them less affected with the move.

A special moving company may be required to relocate pets since not all airlines or ships allow pets in. Those that do will provide owners with guidelines to follow, such as placing pets inside a specified crate, checking in earlier to facilitate transport, and feeding pets at least two to five hours before the trip. When transporting pets, it is best to allow them first to get used to living inside the crate. Also, have them wear name tags during the relocation process for easy identification.
